What We Believe
The Mission of the AME Church is to minister to the social, spiritual, and physical development of all people.
The ultimate purposes are:
- make available God’s biblical principles,
- spread Christ’s liberating gospel, and
- provide continuing programs which will enhance the entire social development of all people.
AME Church History
The African Methodist Episcopal Church has a rich history filled with evidence of God's presence with us. From our humble beginnings in a blacksmith shop to its present space as the oldest African American-founded denomination with congregations across the globe, God continues to be better than good!
Our Episcopal District
The AME Church is divided into Episcopal Districts. These Episcopal Districts form what is essentially a geographical area that is under the leadership of a Bishop.
Emmanuel is in the 2nd Episcopal District, which includes churches in Maryland, DC, Virginia, and North Carolina. Our Episcopal leaders are Bishop James L. Davis and Supervisor Arelis Beevers Davis.
Eastern District of the WNCC
Locally, each church is under the guidance of a Presiding Elder. We belong to the Western NC Conference in the Eastern District. Our current Presiding Elder is the Rev. Dr. Qismat Alim.
